How to Pacify the Creative Ego

1. Tell the downtrodden creative that you see their vision. Alas, the client is far too small-minded to ever get it.
2. Pretend as if you do indeed get it for at least three days.
3. Feed all creatives candy, soda, and other highly caffeinated placebos.
4. Insist that you "know" that said creative is a real writer, artist, filmmaker, director, unfortunately the advertising world has no place for their utter brilliance.
5. Promise them meetings with actual writers, artists, and filmmakers, who are actually utterly brilliant.
6. Let them skateboard, jet-ski, or scooter around the office creating a false sense of upward mobility.
7. Give them small, hip toys to play with into the wee hours of the night.
8. Gently stroke their unkempt hair into the wee hours of the night.
9. Provide them with impressionable interns who will fetch them caffeinated and intoxicating placebos, and possibly stroke their unkempt hair into the wee hours of night.
10. Wii.

Why Creatives Are Always Confused from:

As you stroll the halls of an ad agency you often encounter people wearing baseball caps, wandering aimlessly and

muttering to themselves. We call these people "creatives." They are the ones who make the ads.
They are always confused. Here's why:

5- They are pressured by their leaders to do "great" work.
But when they do, they usually get reprimanded for not being "on strategy."

6- They are encouraged to win awards.
But when they do, they are dismissed as childish narcissists.

7- They are highly paid, but rarely listened to.

8- They are told that it's "all about the work" but come to learn that it's "all about the metrics"
or "all about the relationship" or "all about the conversation" or "all about" whatever the cliche-of-the-month is.

9- When they say advertising is an art, their clients say it's a business.

10-When they say it's a business, their clients say it's an art.

11- When they finally get something good produced, it fails.

12- When they produce mundane crap, it works.

13- When their friends like it, their clients hate it.

14- When their clients like it, their friends hate it.

15- They are encouraged to be collaborative. But the more people touch their work, the worse it gets.

16- They are counseled against becoming prima donnas.
But they see that the people who get good jobs are often disagreeable monsters.

17- If they weren't confused they'd be crazy.

The Black Swam
“Perfect. I felt it. I was perfect"
Natalie Portman y Mila Kunis.

Marcel Proust
Everything great in the world comes from neurotics.
They alone have founded our religions and composed our masterpieces.
